Clinicum Inc., the history of the hospital in Vysočany
In 1949 architect Tenzer designed a project for an administration building that was to serve the needs of the health insurance in that period. The project was promptly changed and on the 15th May 1954 the building was opened as a hospital and polyclinic, which was meant to provide health care to employees of many industrial enterprises of Prague 9 as well as the citizens living in the area of Prague 9. During the years that followed the number of beds augmented and new departments were established e.g. in the seventies a new intensive care unit (ICU) opened. The hospital had its own anaesthesia and resuscitation unit, surgical intensive care unit, department of functional diagnostics and nuclear medicine just to name a few. In the seventies and eighties the hospital was extremely well equipped for that time period.
Until the end of 1991 the hospital and polyclinic were part of the District Institution of National Health of Prague 9, which ceased existing on the 31st December 1991. On the 1st January 1992 the hospital and Polyclinic in Vysočany became a budget organization of its own, later an allowance organization. On the 1st January 1996 this hospital was abolished by the council of Prague 9 and all its rights, liabilities and active debts were assigned to a new organization Clinicum s.r.o., which changed to a joint stock company in November 1996 by the decision of its founders.
Today, Clinicum Inc. serves not only the citizens and employees of Prague 9 and Prague 14 but many clients from the whole capital and suburbs. Our company provides a wide range of medical care to in and outpatients and apart from its own departments we rent parts of the building to other association related with health care.
Since 1999 Clinicum Inc. has become a modern private hospital with a polyclinic, which provides basic care as well as above standard care not covered by medical insurance. It now includes the Centre of Treatment of the Locomotion System and the Centre of Curative and Preventive Rehabilitation. Our main goals include providing better health care for our clients. This is possible due to many assets, one of which is easy accessibility to public transport.
